What it is:

The cornea is the clear front window of the eye. A corneal transplant replaces a damaged cornea with a donor cornea.
What You Can Expect:

This is often an outpatient surgery. The ophthalmologist (Eye M.D.) carefully removes the damaged or diseased cornea. Then the clear donor cornea is sewn into place.
Who Is a Good Candidate:

A corneal transplant may help if the cornea is deeply scarred or swollen and other treatments don't work.
